Our partners

The Bennett Institute was established in 2023 with a major donation from the Peter Bennett Foundation. This was matched by investment from the University of Sussex Business School, which is home to the world-renowned Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU).

Peter Bennett is the founding benefactor of the Peter Bennett Foundation (2013), and the Bennett Institute for Innovation & Policy Acceleration (2023). Graduating in 1978, he read Economics at Churchill College, Cambridge. Following a successful career in banking and hedge fund management, Peter now devotes his time to pursuing philanthropic endeavours to promote equality and reduce poverty through direct donations and institutional support.

We also work with a wide range of additional funding partners on specific research projects.

The Peter Bennett Foundation

The Peter Bennett Foundation was established in 2012 as a charitable trust with the objective of improving the quality of life. It was born from a desire to create a true legacy of positive change for our communities all over the world. By supporting ideas and innovation, it aims to deliver impact to our people and to our planet.

The Foundation also funds a network of other research centres in the UK, which offers many opportunities for collaboration.

The University of Sussex Business School

One of the UK’s leading business schools, the University of Sussex Business School’s work encompasses management, economics, science, technology and innovation studies. As one of the school’s four research centres, the Bennett Institute will draw on its world leading expertise and the global impact of its research in climate change and sustainability, climate finance, and innovation.
